Booker Blitz vs PWS, Promotion Wars & TEW IX

Looking for a TEW alternative, a Promotion Wars vs TEW breakdown, or the best wrestling promotion sim for how you book? This comparison covers four chairs in the same office: Booker Blitz, Pro Wrestling Sim (often shortened to PWS), Promotion Wars, and Total Extreme Wrestling IX (TEW IX).

They all let you run a promotion, stack a card, and chase heat. The jobs differ.

Booker Blitz leads with Gorilla Position: live match control. Audibles. Run-ins. Cut or extend. Change the finish while the house is still hot. Most booking sims lock the card, then simulate. Booker Blitz keeps you in the earpiece while the bell is still ringing.

That does not make the others obsolete. TEW IX is the deep industry dynasty. Promotion Wars is free, long-running, datapack-driven booking. Pro Wrestling Sim is a one-developer Steam Early Access booker that has grown for years with its community: worker promises, a big editor and Workshop scene, and a living world of networks, social buzz and real wrestling history. Plenty of people play more than one. Dual-fandom is fine.

Booker Blitz is Coming Soon on Steam, with Early Access planned for November 2026 and a Steam Next Fest appearance this October. Wishlist it on Steam or visit the official website.

Gorilla Position mid-match: audibles, run-ins, and finish calls still live.

Booker Blitz: the headset stays on

Booker Blitz is a wrestling promotion management sim from David Morais. Keyboard-centric. Neon cyan and magenta by default, and as many looks as you want after that. You hire talent, shape storylines, fill the card. Then, when the house lights hit, you step into Gorilla Position.

Most of this article exists because of that chair.

In Gorilla Position you call the show live:

  • Audibles mid-match
  • Run-ins and interference, including anonymous run-ins
  • Cut a match short or let it breathe
  • Change the finish when the heat demands it

You are not a spectator with a budget. You are the voice in the earpiece.

Match Wizard: Setup, Participants, Flow, Finish.
Match Wizard: Setup, Participants, Flow, Finish.

Match Wizard walks the card like a real booker: Setup, Participants, Flow, Finish. Drag talent onto sides, put titles on the line, lock the ref, set pacing and entrance order, then call the finish.

Segment Wizard: sides, parts, and a shared minute budget for promos and angles.
Segment Wizard: sides, parts, and a shared minute budget for promos and angles.

Segment Wizard builds promos and angles: multiple sides, reorderable parts, a shared minute budget, storyline suggestions, one-click storyline starts. Managers auto-attach with their clients. Every part drives live-feed narration so the show hears the beat.

Special-match theater when you need a statement: debuts and returns, retirements, career vs career, loser leaves, dream matches, storyline blowoffs.

Going live: logo burst and commentary intro before segment one.
Going live: logo burst and commentary intro before segment one.

The product looks like a show: ring announcers as Key Staff, a going-live broadcast intro, talent voicing their own promos, commentators on the desk, and post-bell result calls (with a re-announce if you change the finish in Gorilla).

Storyline side builder: drag-and-drop sides with POP / CHA / MIC on the cards.

Business has teeth. Unhappy talent refuse renewals; happy talent re-sign at a discount; popularity shapes the ask; rival talent stays off-limits until near expiry; AI poaches force Counter or Let Them Walk. Sponsorship deals need a named sponsorship segment on the card to pay out. Medics per injury. Trainers for Charisma, Mic Skills, and Hardcore.

Your universe: a fictional default world, JSON datapack modding, and New Game seeds from .bbdb archives. DataStudio is a separate app for cooking datapacks, free to download from the official website, along with ready-made databases.

Paint the arena: themes

Booker Blitz treats presentation as part of the booking. Three ways to dress the show:

  • Built-in themes. The game ships with its own looks, dark and light, and the neon cyan and magenta house style.
  • Custom themes. Build one in DataStudio: primary, secondary and accent colours, the stat scale, light or dark, plus your own art behind the menu, the live show and the contract table. Export a single .bbtheme file and import it from Settings, Theme. It becomes your Custom theme.
  • Themes from the official website. The resources section of the official website hosts downloadable themes. Grab one, import it, and your promotion has a new arena. Fan-made themes can be submitted too.

Paint the arena: built-in, custom, or downloaded from the official website.

Title night: AND NEW energy in your own universe.
Title night: AND NEW energy in your own universe.

Booker Blitz supports fullscreen. Promotion Wars and TEW IX do not: the current Promotion Wars edition is a fixed window, and TEW IX stays at a fixed window resolution.

Booker Blitz is headed to Steam Early Access in November 2026 at $19.99 USD, with a 25% launch discount. It launches on Windows and SteamOS / Linux; macOS support comes after release. Core loop at Early Access: book the card, cut the segments, call the shots in Gorilla Position, grow the promotion.

Book the Chaos. Call the shots.

Pro Wrestling Sim (PWS)

Exact product name: Pro Wrestling Sim on Steam (community shorthand: PWS).

Pitch (official): control a wrestling promotion, decide your roster, and create storylines, feuds and matches where the winners and losers are in your hands.

Status: Steam Early Access since March 29, 2021, built by a single developer for close to a decade, and now heading toward its full release. Windows, macOS and Linux, rated Playable on Steam Deck. About $19.99 USD on Steam (regional pricing varies; the developer plans a slight price rise after Early Access). Steam user reviews sit at Overwhelmingly Positive.

What sets it apart:

  • Promises. Workers ask for a match with someone, a title shot, even a title win. Agree and you had better deliver, or deal with your star (and his friends).
  • A world-builder's editor. Edit Database lets you design a world from reality or imagination and share it through Steam Workshop. Mod makers can import a promotion's real event and title history from Cagematch and set hiring rules the AI follows.
  • A living world. Recent updates added your own subscription streaming network, an in-world social feed that reacts to your booking, taping several shows in one day with crowd fatigue, skill ceilings with growth projections, training schools and plugins.
  • Community-shaped. Many features came straight from player requests, and reviewers praise the approachable booking tools and creative freedom.
  • An optional, opt-in AI chatbot for booking ideas (per its Steam AI disclosure).

How it sits in this comparison: PWS is the community booker with a strong editor and Workshop lane. If your fantasy is building or downloading a world, keeping promises to your locker room, and watching the wider wrestling world react, PWS is built for that loop. It does not publicly pitch live mid-match control the way Booker Blitz does. Its Steam page lists UI scale and text size, not a fullscreen mode.

See the current build on the Pro Wrestling Sim Steam page.

Promotion Wars

Exact product name: Promotion Wars (current version: 21st Anniversary Edition). Developer: Adam Jennings. Site: pwremastered.com.

Pitch (official): a wrestling booking simulator for Windows. Run a promotion, book shows, matches, feuds, and title changes. Sign and fire wrestlers, manage finances, deal with injuries, keep talent happy, grow the company. Design lineage nods to classic Championship Manager football management. The first version came out in 2000, and its creator revived it in 2021.

Status / price: Completely free: full game, no ads, no catches (per official site). Download the game, then add a Data Pack (wrestlers, promotions, eras). Not currently on Steam. Promotion Wars 2026 is planned as a free upgrade for Windows (Release 1 planned for the second half of 2026, subject to change), with the final release planned to land on Steam for free.

Standout public features:

  • Free model with ongoing updates
  • Era and modern Data Packs, plus an official Data Pack Editor
  • Booking, finances, feuds and roster management
  • PW2026 roadmap lists unlimited feuds, nine new game areas, a dedicated finances screen, a redesigned booking system and more

The current version runs in a fixed window with no fullscreen mode. PW2026 lists fullscreen as a new feature.

How it sits in this comparison: Promotion Wars is the open door. Zero price, decades of community memory, datapacks for the eras you care about. Like PWS and TEW, the public pitch is card-and-simulate, not live Gorilla calls.

Read the pitch on pwremastered.com. UI motion is on the Promotion Wars YouTube channel.

Total Extreme Wrestling IX (TEW IX)

Exact product name: Total Extreme Wrestling IX (TEW IX). Developer: Grey Dog Software. Sold via Grey Dog's store (FastSpring), not on Steam.

Pitch (official): the world's most influential wrestling industry simulator, in its 20th-anniversary entry. You play a promoter leading a company through talent, rivals and the industry around them.

Status / price: Released August 3, 2024. Listed at $34.95. Free demo available from Grey Dog. Windows PC.

Standout public features (Grey Dog product page):

  • Wrestlers and other characters modeled in precise detail
  • Booking team feature
  • Real-world calendar system
  • Company "inner circle" of trusted lieutenants
  • Flexible angle system
  • CornellVerse fantasy world with decades of history
  • Large game world spanning eight major areas, with tour companies

TEW IX runs at a fixed window resolution, the same as previous editions, with no fullscreen mode.

How it sits in this comparison: TEW IX is the deep dynasty chair. If you want maximum industry simulation, this is the lineage title. The learning curve is real. Booker Blitz is not claiming feature parity with TEW's industry layer. Different job: TEW builds the empire; Booker Blitz keeps you calling finishes live, and it can fill the screen while it does.

Gorilla Position: why live match control changes the job

Here is the Booker Blitz differentiator in one beat.

The other sims in this article largely end their interactive booking when the card is locked. You set winners, angles, and segments. Then the show resolves.

Gorilla Position keeps the match listening.

A called audible playing out on the live feed.
A called audible playing out on the live feed.

You can audible. Send a run-in. Cut time when a match dies. Extend when the crowd is eating it up. Change the finish mid-match, and the ring announcer re-calls the result.

That is a different play fantasy: deep dynasty booker vs live headset showrunner. Neither is wrong. If your favorite nights are planning six months of title reigns and company wars, TEW-class depth (or a long PWS or Promotion Wars save) may be home. If your favorite nights are reacting in the earpiece when the house turns, Booker Blitz is built for that chair.

Match Wizard and Segment Wizard feed Gorilla. Broadcast staff and going-live intros make the feed feel like a show. Contracts and sponsorships make the office matter after the applause. Datapacks, DataStudio and themes let you bring a universe in and paint it your colours. Everything else supports the headset.

Who should play which

Choose Booker Blitz if you want keyboard-centric booking and live match control: audibles, run-ins, cut or extend, change finishes. You like a show that looks like a broadcast, themes you can build or download, wizards that structure the card, fullscreen, and a fictional world you can mod.

Choose Pro Wrestling Sim if you want a community-shaped booker where promises to your workers matter, a deep editor with Workshop sharing and real-history imports, and a wrestling world that reacts to you. Mac support or Steam Deck matters to you today.

Choose Promotion Wars if you want free Windows booking with Data Packs across eras and a long-running community. Keep an eye on PW2026 as the next free generation.

Choose TEW IX if you want the deepest wrestling industry simulator: CornellVerse, angles, booking teams, calendars, inner circles. You are fine buying from Grey Dog's store rather than Steam.

Play more than one if your week has room for a dynasty save and a live-showrunner itch. Compare the fantasy. Don't dunk the lineage.

FAQ: wrestling booking simulator comparison

What is the best TEW alternative in 2026?
"Best" depends on the job. If you want TEW-class industry depth, TEW IX remains the reference. If you want a different chair (live Gorilla Position match control, keyboard-centric booking, themes you can make your own), Booker Blitz is the alternative fantasy. Pro Wrestling Sim and Promotion Wars are strong options with their own strengths (a community editor and Workshop vs free datapacks).

Booker Blitz vs TEW IX: what's the real difference?
TEW IX simulates the wrestling industry in high detail. Booker Blitz focuses on booking the show, with Gorilla Position live match control, and it supports fullscreen where TEW IX stays in a fixed window. Not a replacement claim. Different jobs.

Promotion Wars vs TEW: which should I start with?
Start with Promotion Wars if you want free entry and datapack eras. Start with TEW IX if you want maximum industry simulation and will pay for Grey Dog's depth. Many bookers try both over time. Neither current edition has a fullscreen mode.

Is PWS the same as Pro Wrestling Simulator?
The Steam store title is Pro Wrestling Sim. Community shorthand is PWS.

Does Booker Blitz have live match control?
Yes. Gorilla Position is the core hook: audibles, run-ins, cut or extend matches, change finishes mid-match.

Is Booker Blitz out yet?
Not yet. It is Coming Soon on Steam, with Early Access planned for November 2026 at $19.99 USD and a 25% launch discount. It shows up at Steam Next Fest this October. Wishlist on Steam and follow the official website.

Does Booker Blitz run on Mac?
Not at Early Access launch. It launches on Windows and SteamOS / Linux, and macOS support comes after release.

Can I change how Booker Blitz looks?
Yes. Pick a built-in theme, build a custom .bbtheme in DataStudio, or download a theme from the official website and import it from Settings, Theme.

Can I mod these games?
Booker Blitz: JSON datapacks, .bbdb seeds, .bbtheme themes, and DataStudio from the official website. Pro Wrestling Sim: Edit Database, Steam Workshop and plugins. Promotion Wars: official Data Packs and editor. TEW IX: long-standing database and mod culture.

Do I need to pick only one wrestling booking sim?
No. Dual-fandom is normal. Dynasty depth and live headset energy can live on the same hard drive.
